Supercargoes & UK Cadets

Supercargoes are a team of specialized technicians, who are employed by Africa Express Line to monitor and maintain AEL’s fleet of Reefer units and Controlled Atmosphere units during sea transit.

UK Cadets:

AEL currently sponsors 20 Merchant Navy cadets on a 3 year nautical college / sea phase course under the UK Government SMarT funding scheme.

The Government’s Support for Maritime Training (SMarT) scheme has been running since April 1998 and supports courses approved by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).

They also support the Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB) for the training of officers, officer cadets and ratings.

The Government’s principal objective in supporting merchant navy training is to facilitate an adequate supply of UK maritime expertise to meet the nation’s economic and strategic requirements.

Joining the fight against plastic

Africa Express Line are helping towards reducing the production of plastic bags by providing all staff members with a reusable shopping bag.

The aim is to reduce the amount of plastic bags that are purchased by staff when using the local shops at lunchtimes.

The bags were printed with the AEL logo by a local business which come with a life time, replace guarantee.

We have calculated since the reusable bags have been used by staff, on average, we save 260 plastic bags being bought every month.
